BETSY V. FIGGIE

Betsy Figgie stepped out of the world of corporate banking after 12 years to fulfill an entrepreneurial vision. During her years of working with organizations of all kinds, she noticed that non-profit organizations (NPOs) often came in search of bank funding without the leadership support of a formal CFO. She wondered what would happen if someone could temporarily fill that role at the negotiating table – would NPOs be able to secure the premium pricing such expertise could provide? In 2005, Betsy founded Your CFO Resource to help bridge the gap in bank negotiations.

Now, Betsy helps NPOs present financing requests using conventional bank structures and terminology, and represents the NPO in competitive negotiations with multiple banks. Acting as an interim CFO, she helps executives with every aspect of the financing process and draws on outside expertise that may be needed from her wide circle of industry contacts.

Betsy developed her financing expertise by serving in multiple roles within one of the country’s largest corporate banks. Starting at National City Bank in 1993, Betsy expanded her knowledge base as part of the Retail Management Training Program for the branch network. She later moved to Small Business Banking, and in 1998 was appointed a relationship manager in Regional Corporate Banking. Within two years she was appointed manager of sales development for Wholesale Banking, and later she joined Treasury Management as manager of risk management, training, product rollout and sales development.

By 2002 Betsy had become the manager of Investor Relations and the primary contact for Wall Street sell-side analysts, institutional investors and individual shareholders. Her responsibilities grew, and when she left National City to found Your CFO Resource, she was a Senior Vice President and manager of corporate projects.

Betsy has received numerous community service awards including the distinguished “Triangle Award” from the YMCA of Greater Cleveland and National City’s “Excel Award” for Community Service, the bank’s highest honor. Betsy currently serves as the capital campaign Chairman for the Ronald McDonald House of Cleveland's $13.5 million renovation and expansion. Betsy also volunteers with her therapy dog, Weegee, at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital and Ahuja Medical Center through University Hospital's Pet Pals program.

Kelly began her career as a Management Associate with Key Corporate Banking completing underwriting assignments within Real Estate Capital Markets, Cash Management and Structured Finance. Within a year Kelly was promoted to Assistant Vice President and Portfolio Manager within Key Commercial Real Estate underwriting nearly $500 million of construction and permanent loans for retail, multifamily, residential, office and industrial properties throughout the Great Lakes region. During this time she became highly skilled in real estate documentation including leases, purchase agreements, market/feasibility studies, appraisals, environmental site reports and title work.

Beginning in 2002, Kelly served as Vice President and Relationship Manager in Fifth Third Bank’s Commercial Real Estate Division. There she originated $30 million in construction and interim loans to non-profit organizations including Famicos Foundation, Buckeye Area Development Corporation, Goodwill Industries of Akron and Ursuline Academy of Cleveland. Lori Poe, Cash Management

Lori Poe is a 20+ year banking veteran having worked at National City Corporation, one of the country’s largest financial institutions. She began in the Retail Management Training Program serving individuals and small businesses with traditional banking, commercial lending and cash management products. She was one of the founding lenders of the Business Services Group, focusing on commercial lending and cash management for the smaller corporate customer. From there Lori’s position grew to be Vice President and Regional Manager in Treasury Management assisting for profit and not-for-profit organizations with more specialized cash management needs.

“I’m fortunate,” says Lori, “to have helped both large institutions like the Cleveland Clinic and the Red Cross as well as smaller organizations such as Coats for Kids and The Cleveland Sight Center through their cash management selection process.”

Today, Lori draws upon her in-depth knowledge to provide comprehensive cash management assessment and selection services. The process begins with Lori drafting a schematic of the organization’s cash flow to identify greater efficiencies in processing and cash flow, and ensure nothing gets lost in a conversion. The next step focuses on the company’s short-term and long -term cash management goals as well as the type of daily system they are able to maintain with respect to staffing, time, technology and security. Lori then, if necessary, drafts an RFP (request for proposal ) for competitive bids from local and national banks. Once the RFPs are received she helps to evaluate the responses, finalize a negotiating strategy and recommend a winning bank (or banks).

“Although a company may send out a standard cash management questionnaire to multiple banks, more often than not the responses vary significantly. The responses are mostly altered to meet the capabilities of the bank’s product offerings, not necessarily the company’s needs. I enjoy working with non-profits and entrepreneurs – organizations that don’t have a full time cash management staff – to translate the responses into an ‘apples-to-apples’ comparison.”

Lori has served as Treasurer on various local civic and PTA boards. She and her husband Tom, an asset based commercial lender, live in Rocky River with their five children.
